City officials have withdrawn a lawsuit against a firefighter accused of working a side job while receiving disability payments. Fire Lt. Peter Joyce was accused by city officials of receiving more than $43,000 in disability pay from taxpayers while working, which is not allowed under the city's contract with firefighters.

At least one person is dead Tuesday after a two-alarm fire at a mobile home near Bremerton, emergency officials said. Firefighters responded to the scene, in the 4000 block of NW Country Lane, at around 11:30 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames at a mobile home there. At least one person was found dead, Central Kitsap Fire & Rescue said in a Twitter posting.

After outcry from dispatchers and the city’s firefighters union, the Spokane City Council overrode the mayor’s veto and blocked the city’s participation in a planned regionwide 911 integration that critics say may not improve public safety. Mayor David Condon called the council’s earlier unanimous vote to require city dispatchers to only work with city police and firefighters an overstep.

A fraction of the town of Paradise, CA was alerted before the Camp Fire reduced it to ashes. That’s because the Butte County Sheriff’s Department decided to use what experts say is an outdated system — called Code Red — to notify residents of danger with a phone call. Greater Spokane Emergency Management uses the same system, Alert Spokane.
