In last four fatal fires, Illinois firefighters didn’t call the closest reinforcements

There’s no guarantee that a different strategy would have resulted in a different outcome — that the victims would be alive today if something as mundane as an administrative spreadsheet had one more agency added. But in each of four fatal fires over the last 11 years, the structure of mutual aid calls for volunteer fire departments just beyond Peoria city limits has resulted in scenarios that appear to contradict the most basic tenets of firefighting.

Public warned to stay away from Miriam Fire after two hunters disrupt fire operations

Fire officials are reminding people to observe closures in the area around the Miriam Fire after two hunters disrupted fire operations. Two men were seen in the closed area firing rifles in the direction of firefighters, stopping firefighting operations in the ski area and forcing the evacuation of firefighters, officials said Thursday.

Central Kitsap and Marysville firefighter newlyweds: No gifts, guests asked to donate to benevolent funds

When two local firefighters got married recently, rather than register for wedding presents, they decided to do things a little differently. Ileana LiMarzi and Jason Tucker, who got married on July 28, are both firefighters in the area. LiMarzi is a member of Local 2819 Central Kitsap Fire and Rescue and Tucker is a member of Local 3219 Marysville Professional Firefighters.

Yakima house fire leaves two children with second and third degree burns

The Yakima Fire Department responded to a house fire on Sunday morning that left two children with second and third degree burns. Crews were called to the house at the 1200 block of Swan Avenue. When they arrived they found the two-story house in flames with fire coming from every window. Four adults and two children were inside the home at the time of the fire.
