Seattle City Council says contracted ambulance workers deserve better pay

Emergency medical technicians (EMTs) employed by a city contractor help and transport sick and injured people across Seattle but earn as little as $15 per hour as they respond in ambulances to incidents that can range from car crashes and psychiatric crises to strokes. They deserve more, the City Council declared Monday with a resolution that calls on Mayor Jenny Durkan’s administration to seek better wages and benefits for the EMTs.

Yakima firefighters deal with 7 suspicious fires, 4 labeled arson, in past 5 days

The 911 call came in and firefighters put out a warehouse fire at Fruit Packers Supply, only to have the same building ignite again two days later. “With these businesses, buildings, infrastructure, trucks and all that material it's a rough estimate of about twenty million (dollars),” Jeff Pfaff with Yakima Fire Department said.

Pasco firefighters are getting their own multi-story live fire training facility

After an almost two-year process, a new live fire training facility will soon be available for Pasco firefighters and departments in the surrounding regions. "It's great to be getting this put together and it's wonderful for the Pasco Fire Department and the city to have this facility here," said Pasco Fire Chief Bob Gear.

Japanese-Era Fire Station Designated Hsinchu Heritage

The building was constructed in 1936 by the Japanese colonial era Shinchiku Prefecture as the municipality’s main fire station, Hsinchu Cultural Affairs Bureau Cultural Heritage Section head Lin Hsiao-hua (林曉華) said.  

The station consists of a two-story main complex and a six-story watchtower that was then the tallest structure in the city, she said.

The watchtower had direct lines of sight to every alley and corner of the city and had speaking tubes that ran down its structural walls, allowing watch personnel to spot fires and notify firefighters quartered bellow, she said.

Fire Station in Boston (MA) to Host Charity Open Day

There will be music, games, stalls and a barbecue as well as the chance to have a closer look at the fire station.  

There will also be displays and demonstrations, a chance to meet Fireman Sam, and a vintage fire engine on show.

The event runs from 10am until 4pm.
