Police believe captured Seattle arson suspect wasn't done

An arson spree in North Seattle nearly caught one home on fire. Police said a man set at least eight fires Tuesday morning in Phinney Ridge, Wallingford and Green Lake Park and investigators don't think he planned to stop there. People who escaped some of the fires are relieved the man has been caught.

North Whatcom Fire and Rescue commissioners appoint Joe Noonchester interim fire chief

In preparation for William Pernett’s final day as fire chief at North Whatcom Fire and Rescue (NWFR), fire commissioners voted on November 15 to appoint assistant chief Joe Noonchester to the position on an interim basis. “My goal is to continue where fire chief William Pernett left off,” Noonchester said in an email.

Fire destroys rural Port Angeles home

A rural residence east of Port Angeles was destroyed by a fire Tuesday afternoon after flames that began in the daylight basement chased the owner, poet and professor emeritus Alice Derry from the deck of her home. Derry, 71, of 1862 Deer Park Road, was not injured in the blaze reported at 2:43 p.m.

California city renames fire department training center after slain captain

Long Beach City Council voted Tuesday, Nov. 20 to rename a Fire Department training center after David Rosa, the captain who was killed on duty earlier this year. The facility, at 2249 Argonne Avenue in the Stearns Park neighborhood, will now be called the “Captain David Rosa Regional Training Center.

Rhode Island fire chief: Terminated fire lieutenant deleted thousands of records

A former town fire lieutenant charged last week with two counts of computer trespassing deleted hundreds of thousands of files from the department’s computer system, according to Fire Chief Kevin Robinson. Robert Warner, who was fired from the Fire Department in July, was charged last week by the Attorney General’s office after an investigation by the East Greenwich police.
