Fire District 3 aspires to be "the best rural fire district in America," and within the last year, the fire district has taken several steps to achieve its vision, including the purchase of new equipment and the reinstatement of its fire risk specialist program. After balancing its budget last year, the fire district added a new 3,000-gallon water tender to its apparatus at a cost of $334,211.

Fire danger continues to increase in central Washington; triple-digit temperatures on the way

Fire danger continues to increase in central Washington as triple-digit temperatures are forecasted for next week. Eleven counties are now listed as very high or extreme wildfire danger, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. Those counties include Grant, Adams, Douglas, Okanogan, Chelan, Kittitas, Yakima, Klickitat, Benton, Franklin and Whitman.

Five face discipline as city wraps investigation of bullying and hazing within Spokane Fire Department

The city of Spokane will discipline five firefighters after concluding its investigation into allegations of harassment and bullying at Spokane Fire Department Station 2. In a joint statement released Tuesday, the firefighters union and city officials said they were “committed to a workplace free from harassment, discrimination, or retaliation of any kind” and they “firmly believe in treating everyone with dignity, respect, and professionalism.

Spokane firefighters respond to vacant house fire

Spokane firefighters responded to a report of a house fire on E. Glass Ave. and N. Nevada St. around 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Firefighters on scene say the fire started in the back of a vacant house and spread. No one was inside the home at the time. Responding crews had the fire knocked down within 15 minutes of their arrival, but flames flared up again while crews were still on scene.
