The Spokane Fire Department announced Tuesday that Rex Strickland III has been selected as the department's new deputy fire chief. Chief Strickland will be the training chief, overseeing both recruit and incumbent training, health and safety, and recruitment. He will begin on Monday, July 30. Chief Strickland has been working in fire service for 29 years, beginning in 1992.

Authorities say a crash took a scary turn for first responders in the west Valley when the driver involved in the crash started shooting at them. Two Hanover firefighters and another driver were taken to the hospital after a crash early Tuesday morning, according to 9NEWS sister station KOAA.
