Fire Apparatus Overturns, Driver from El Dorado Springs Dies

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, three miles west of Stockton. Russell Hayes was driving a 1989 Pierce Lance pumper truck, when he traveled off the right side of the eastbound highway, corrected back then overcorrected, causing the truck to overturn.

Toledo (OH) Requests $5 Million for Six New Fire Apparatus

Fire Chief Brian Byrd said he needs new trucks. With a recent spike in calls for service the fleet of trucks used by the 18 fire stations across Toledo are constantly on the go, putting a major strain on the rigs used on a daily basis. 

 

But others, which are used as reserves or backup trucks, have extremely  high millage and based upon pictures, they are showing serious signs of wear. Many of the reserve trucks are well over 15 years old and have clocked more than 200,000 miles. 

There were two ladder trucks on the list, that were originally built back in 1983.

Wahoo Fire Department notes 140th anniversary

An anniversary celebration, as well as demonstrations and a display of firefighting equipment, will take place at the fire hall in downtown Wahoo from noon to 2 p.m.  

Fire Prevention Officer Kyle Arp said activities will include fire truck rides and several demonstrations.

One of the demonstrations will be inside a smoke simulator truck borrowed from the Schuyler Fire Department. Arp said this will give those in attendance a chance to see how smoke behaves and help them prepare, if ever they encounter such an emergency.

A grease fire demonstration is also planned. He said people don’t always think about grease fires and how they can devastate a kitchen minutes.

Ratcliffe Memorial Transportation (VA) Museum Celebrating Century-Old Fire Apparatus

The truck, prominently displayed in the museum’s main gallery, is available for close inspection and photo opportunities Thursday, 1-3 p.m.  

Other artifacts from local fire departments and an early 1900s fire truck restored by the Hudson family also are featured as part of National Fire Prevention Week, Oct. 7-13.

Century-Old Fire Truck on Display for Fire Prevention Parade

Community Rolls Out Antique Apparatus

The Southwest Times spotlighted a gem from the local fire department: the town of Pulaski's historic 1917 American LaFrance fire truck, which was delivered to the community 100 years ago.

The vehicle will be on display for the local Fire Prevention Parade. The truck, which is prominently displayed in the museum’s main gallery, is available for close inspection and photo opportunities Thursday, 1-3 p.m.
