A resident in a Guide Meridian home north of Bellingham suffered minor smoke inhalation Wednesday morning when they ran back into their burning home to rescue some ferrets.
Two fire engines from North Whatcom Fire and Rescue and one each from the Lynden Fire Department and Whatcom County Fire District 7 responded at 7:24 a.

Cuts and deficits are now an afterthought for firefighters and paramedics for the immediate future following Clallam voters’ decision to increase Clallam County Fire District 3’s levy lid lift.
Tuesday’s results show 7,801 (60.6 percent) voted in favor of increasing the levy rate from $1.26 per $1,000 of assessed valuation to $1.

Bothell asked its citizens to decide the city’s public safety future when they voted on two measures: a public safety levy called Proposition 1 and a fire station bond called Proposition 2.
As of election night on Nov. 6, Prop. 1 was passing with about 60 percent of the vote, while Prop. 2 was passing with 64 percent.

A raging two-alarm fire destroyed a 109-year-old grain storage facility early Wednesday just outside of Kent's southern limits.
Several crews responded to the blaze at the White River Feed Co., in the 27600 block of 78th Avenue South, at around 5:15 a.m., said Kyle Ohashi of the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority.

Around 63 percent of voters in Fire District 1 cast a vote approving a bond issue that would finance a new fire station on Alexander Road in Onalaska as of Tuesday night, with approximately 639 votes remaining.
That number represented 853 votes in favor and 491 opposed to the proposition.
The issue was put on the ballot by a resolution passed by Fire District 1 commissioners which would issue no more than $1.
