Hoquiam fire chief retirement rekindles talk of joining emergency services in Aberdeen and Hoquiam

The impending retirement of Hoquiam fire chief Paul Dean appears to have rekindled an interest in discussions regarding the possible consolidation of emergency services between Aberdeen and Hoquiam. “We intend to reach out to Aberdeen and to discuss a partnership in some way,” said Hoquiam mayor Jasmine Dickhoff.

Washington Flats Fire in eastern Douglas County fully contained

The Washington Flats Fire in eastern Douglas County, which kindled in dry grass and quickly grew to 385 acres in size Wednesday, was declared contained Thursday morning. Prosser house fire sends one person to the hospital

Three people were able to escape a home after waking up to smoke Thursday morning. One person was treated on scene and transported to the hospital as a precaution. Two others escaped uninjured. Firefighters are still on scene working to put out a fire on Crosby Road. They said they are using a defense tactics because multiple rounds of ammunition was going off when they arrived.

Ryegrass Coulee Fire near Vantage now 100% contained

The Ryegrass Coulee fire that caused the entire town of Vantage to be evacuated, and shut down I-90 Tuesday morning is now completely contained. It burned 1,612 acres in total. More than 200 firefighters and resources from around the state were sent to help get the fire under control and protect homes in the area.

Yakima Greenway Fires Being Investigated

Since January of 2017 there have been close to sixty fires along the Yakima Greenway, stretching across I-82 in Union Gap all the way into Selah, and onto Highway 12 right at the 16th avenue exit. City officials are working closely with law enforcement to look into various causes. " We're working in conjunction with our local law enforcement agencies and code enforcement in the city.
