Nisqually John Fire burning at least 40 acres along Snake River in Whitman Co.

Crews responded to a wildfire along the Snake River Wednesday. The Nisqually John Fire has burned at least 40 acres of mostly rural land and has continued to grow at a rapid pace, according to the Colton Fire Department. On Thursday morning, crew from Spokane Fire District eight, nine and 10 were sent to the fire.

Neighborhood fireworks ignite 2-alarm blaze at Stanwood home

Fireworks are being blamed for a two-alarm fire that heavily damaged a home in a Stanwood neighborhood on July 4th. Don Bartlett of North County Fire & EMS said he and his crew spotted smoke from the blaze Wednesday while driving back from an Independence Day parade, and said the residents there had no inkling that their home was on fire until he banged on their front door and alerted them.

Firefighters battle huge warehouse fire south of Seattle

A massive warehouse fire sent plumes of smoke into the skies just south of downtown Wednesday night, as flames ripped through the roof and walls. The fire set-off a series of explosions inside the building in the 3600 block of E Marginal Way S as crews took up defensive positions to try and hold it all back.

DNR has already responded to 470 wildfires this year

It's already been a busy fire season in the Northwest. In Washington state alone, crews with the Department of Natural Resources have responded to 470 wildfires so far in 2018. DNR records show wildfires occur more on weekends and holiday afternoons. So as we head into 4th of July celebrations, DNR officials want to make sure you're extra careful and always aware of fire risks.
