A man is behind bars for setting his West Seattle apartment on fire early Sunday.
Firefighters responded to the 4700 block of 42nd Avenue Southwest at about 1 a.m.
According to Seattle police, a man living in the apartment returned to the scene and told officials he had intentionally started the fire.

A brush fire in Richland destroyed 15 acres of land after flames ripped through the area.
The fire started around 11:30 Sunday morning near the 240 and Saint Street in Richland. According to the Richland Fire Department, initial reports indicate that a train had just gone by. However, firefighters have not been able to confirm the starting factor.

The abandoned house in the 700 block of North Sixth Avenue was becoming familiar to Yakima firefighters.
In six months, firefighters were there four times putting out fires until the home eventually was demolished. It was one of 30 buildings listed by the city as abandoned and dangerous where firefighters responded to calls, sometimes more than once.

A Swatara Township fire company is suspended and no longer responding to calls after an investigation into reports that some members were being subjected to racial slurs, harassment and bullying.
Director of Fire Services Mike Ibberson said the Lawnton Fire Company was taken out of service on May 31.

The FDNY is considering stationing one less firefighter at its busiest engine companies as part of a cost-savings measure to cover rising medical leave, officials said Thursday.
As early as next week, the Fire Department might stop assigning a fifth firefighter to the 15 engine companies that had the extra help.
