Firefighters made quick work of a house fire on Havana Street near Upriver Drive Tuesday morning. According to fire crews, a passerby spotted the fire and called 9-1-1. One person was inside the home but was able to get out safely. According to firefighters, two dogs were also inside the home when the blaze started.

A Pasco Fire Department leader received statewide recognition recently. The Washington Fire Chiefs organization honored PFD Chief Bob Gear with the Chief Dan Packer Fire Chief of the Year award at their annual conference in Kennewick. Gear was one of the nominees for the award, which goes to someone who performed exceptionally and professionally over the previous year.

A big change is coming for the Pasco Fire Department. Deputy Fire Chief, Dave Hare, is retiring at the end of June. He's been with the Pasco Fire Department for 27 years. Hare began his career in 1979 in Idaho. He made his way to Denver to get his medical certificates. After, Hare made his way to Hanford then Pasco.
