One person injured in Selah house fire

More than 30 firefighters from across the Upper Yakima Valley responded to a fire that injured one person and damaged a Lancaster Road home Wednesday morning. A resident of 600 Lancaster Road returned home about 7 a.m. to find a fire burning on the ground floor of the house, according to Selah Deputy Fire Chief Jim Lange.

Update: Seattle barge fire ruled accidental; damage estimated at $1million

The Seattle Fire Department ruled Wednesday that Tuesday night’s large barge fire on the Duwamish River was accidental and it estimated damage at $1 million. The barge was loaded with crushed cars — scrap metal — and fire officials did not say exactly how the fire began. The barge was moored in the 600 block of S.

Fire burns portable classroom at Gig Harbor elementary school

A fire heavily damaged two classrooms inside an exterior building at Gig Harbor's Harbor Heights Elementary School Wednesday. Firefighters were called to the school around 3:30 p.m. for reports of the fire and found flames coming out of one of the portable classroom buildings. They were able to keep the flames from spreading beyond the portable, Gig Harbor Fire officials said.

Spokane man jailed for trying to burn neighbor's house down, setting booby traps

A Spokane man has been arrested on arson and harassment charges after he tried to burn down a neighbor's home According to probable cause documents, police were called to a house on N. Crestline Monday night by a woman who said her son was mentally unstable and had booby trapped the house, and possibly made other weapons.

Investigators to start searching for cause of raging S. Seattle barge fire

Investigators will start looking for clues Wednesday as they try to figure out what sparked a raging barge fire in South Seattle. Firefighters battled the huge blaze on the Duwamish River after it broke out about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South Myrtle Street, just off East Marginal Way South.
