Wadsworth (OH) Receives Grant for Firefighting Equipment

The money, which will be presented at noon Monday at the Wadsworth Fire Department Station 1, 153 Lyman St., is coming from the Westfield Insurance Foundation.

“By receiving this award, the Wadsworth Fire & EMS will have the opportunity to help protect our own members,” Wadsworth Fire Chief Robert Lindner said in a prepared statement. “This grant will provide vital safety gear for our firefighters. We can’t fully express our gratitude.”

Stanton Community (MI) Fire Department Takes Unfinished Fire Apparatus Back

Officials with the Stanton Community Fire Department, which serves three townships and the city of Stanton, drove to Grand Ledge firm Etankers Friday morning and took their unfinished truck chassis back.

Sidney Township Supervisor Terry Peterman, who also serves on Stanton's fire board, said he was one of  the officials who retrieved the truck. He said three employees were at Etankers' property off West Grand River Highway in Grand Ledge when they arrived.

Bay City, Hampton Township (MI) Plan to Share New Fire Apparatus

Bay City and Hampton Township took that mutual level of cooperation to a new level when they bought an aerial fire truck to share.

Bay City's aerial truck was more than 20 years old, while Hampton Township's has been in service for over 35 years.

Olathe (KS) Firefighters Celebrate New Fire Apparatus with Push-In

At the start of their shift, the firefighters physically pushed the new truck into the garage. It weighs about 50,000 and it took 21 firefighters to push it inside.

It was all part of a ceremonial tradition that they do each time they get a new truck.

Firefighter’s death first in line of duty for North Whatcom

North Whatcom Fire & Rescue reports that the June 4 cancer death of firefighter John O. Swobody is the first line-of-duty death in the fire district’s history. Swobody, a firefighter for almost 19 years, passed in the evening with family and friends at his side, the district posted. John is survived by his wife Annette and three children.
