Equipment dealer, farmer snap up fire trucks at Spokane Fire Department auction

The Spokane Fire Department sold six vehicles at an auction Saturday morning. Five went to a Cheney man who’ll sell them for parts; the other was picked up by a farmer and developer who intends to use it to protect his family’s farm in Valley, Washington. Jim Paladin, his daughter Crystal Martin and son-in-law Jesse Martin, purchased the single fire truck for $1,600.

West Thurston Firefighter Wins State Award

West Thurston Regional Fire Authority firefighter Michael Morales was presented the Firefighter of the Year award July 20 by the American Legion at its state award banquet in Spokane. The American Legion recognizes providers from around the State of Washington for their efforts in providing outstanding public service.

Arlington Fire Department launches swimmers technical rescue team

Last summer on the day before school started, a 16-year-old girl swimming with family in the Stillaguamish River at the Lincoln Bridge went under, and didn’t resurface until her brother pulled her near-lifeless body to the inaccessible side of the shore. Arlington fire personnel initiated lifesaving efforts after swimming to her location and floating her back on a plastic spine board, where she was rushed to a hospital and recovered after weeks in critical condition.

Chimacum fire leaves couple, pet homeless

A man, a woman and a dog were left homeless after a residential fire in Chimacum whose cause is still under investigation, according to East Jefferson Fire and Rescue Public Information Officer Bill Beezley. Beezley informed The Leader his crews received notice of the fire at 2:06 p.m. July 26, and were joined at the scene, in the 100 block of Center Road, just south of the intersection with Highway 19, by fellow responders from Quilcene Fire and Rescue, Port Ludlow Fire and Rescue, the Department of Natural Resources and Engine 91 of Naval Magazine Indian Island.

Moses Lake firefighters stomp out fire

Firefighters in Moses Lake were able to stomp out a late night blaze that started out as a vehicle fire on Thursday before the flames damaged nearby homes.
