Sayre Foundation Donates Fire Equipment to Hawaii Fire Department

This year alone, the foundation donated ATVs and rescue boards as well as funds for the purchase of a PA system at Hapuna beach.  

And on Friday, that critical work continued with a donation of two Jaws of Life sets — each including a spreader, cutter and ram — to better equip the island’s rescue teams to save lives.

New federal fire help makes a difference

The federal Bureau of Land Management’s recent agreement with the Bureau of Reclamation and local fire districts has already paid off this fire season. The USBR turned over 200,000 acres to the BLM to manage. With Grand Coulee’s fire district already on board with the agreement, Electric City has joined up as well.

Yakima: Rehab units help firefighters combat overexertion, dehydration

When a major fire breaks out, it’s not uncommon to see engines, ladder trucks and a command vehicle on the scene. But there’s another unit that goes as well. It carries no pumps or hoses, and its crew members don’t go into burning buildings. They’re called rehabilitation units, and they provide both a mandated and a vital service for firefighters — giving them respite from the heat and weather, fluids and energy snacks, and medical evaluations before going back into the fire.

Lewis County Fire District 5 EMS Levy Officially Passes By Three Votes

The third time was the charm for proponents of a property tax levy to fund emergency medical services in Lewis County Fire District 5. The measure, which adds 49 cents per $1,000 of assessed value to property taxes in the fire district that includes Napavine, officially passed muster Tuesday when Lewis County certified the vote count of the Aug.
