Pittsburgh-Area Firefighters Lose Hearing Loss Lawsuit

According to a majority panel of the Superior Court of Pennsylvania, a group of Pittsburgh firefighters did not prove that a different design for a fire truck siren they say permanently damaged their hearing would have been safer.

Plaintiffs Maher and Roell serve on the Pittsburgh Bureau of Fire, and are among 247 firefighters who claimed the siren was defectively-designed and caused them to suffer permanent hearing loss.

Spencer's Rescue 1 Ready For New Roads, Same Color

The used truck replaces a 1990 GMC that was “too small, has a standard transmission and hydraulic brakes,” the chief said.

This is an automatic, is much larger and will save time because firefighters will have just about everything they need when it arrives at crashes, water rescues, and high-angle and confined-space incidents. At fires it will be a support vehicle.

 

On the West Coast in Santee, firefighters learned about Spencer’s acquisition through social media, and some folks there mentioned how much they miss the vehicle.

New Rescue Engine Put Into Service For Milton Twp. Fire Dept.

The vehicle has been a work in progress for nearly three years and costs about $500,000.

The department was able to combine two of their old vehicles into a single one, which they say will end up saving them money in the long run.

New 911 leader hired amid controversy over integrated Spokane emergency communication system

A program to consolidate the region’s emergency communications services drew fresh criticism this month following the hiring of an executive director to oversee the transition. Steve Reinke, former director of the Deschutes County 911 Service District in Oregon, has been hired to oversee the integration of emergency communication services across the county into a single communications center, operating under the proposed “SPOCOM” public authority.

Florida fire chief fronting cash-strapped department

The Key Largo Volunteer Fire Department is essentially broke, according to a statement made by Fire Chief Don Bock at a recent meeting, during which he described the nonprofit service provider as having “no assets.” The meeting began with the department’s board approving a balance of $29,954 ending in June — an amount that would barely cover the out-of-pocket cash that Bock says he has fronted the fire department.
