Is Station 31 making Seattle firefighters sick? Study hopes to find answers about ‘Cancer House’

For years, firefighters at Seattle’s Station 31 have worried that the place where they barbecue steak and try to sleep between calls might be making them sick. Red flags were first raised in the early 2000s, after a string of firefighters were diagnosed with cancer. But a subsequent study found no link between the station and the illness.

Nisqually John Fire in Whitman County 100 percent contained

The Nisqually John Fire, sparked Wednesday afternoon along the Snake River in southern Whitman County, is 100 percent contained and fire officials say evidence shows it was likely human-caused. The wildfire, which burned near Nisqually John Landing in the Snake River Canyon for more than three days, was first reported just after noon Wednesday — the Fourth of July.

Fire inside West Seattle apartment building was 'intentionally set'

A man is behind bars for setting his West Seattle apartment on fire early Sunday. Firefighters responded to the 4700 block of 42nd Avenue Southwest at about 1 a.m. According to Seattle police, a man living in the apartment returned to the scene and told officials he had intentionally started the fire.

Brush fire rips through 15 acres of land in Richland

A brush fire in Richland destroyed 15 acres of land after flames ripped through the area. The fire started around 11:30 Sunday morning near the 240 and Saint Street in Richland. According to the Richland Fire Department, initial reports indicate that a train had just gone by. However, firefighters have not been able to confirm the starting factor.
