Crews rescue man who jumped into the Spokane River in Downtown

Spokane Fire crew were able to safely rescue a person from the Spokane River near Post and Spokane Falls Boulevard Thursday night. Crews responded to the area around 7:00 p.m. for a report of a man who jumped into the river. The man was able to make it to some rock on the side of the water. Rescue crews rappelled down the rock to get to the man.

Mental health issues/care for first responders studied at Central Washington University

Central Washington University wants to enter the mind of a first responder by examining how they deal with stress. In particular, the university’s psychology department is studying if emergency personnel can better deal with the stress of their jobs by writing about their experiences. CWU psychology student Ann Marie Farina is collecting data for a survey to better understand the effects that sharing traumatic experiences through writing has on the mental health of first responders.

New Bryan (TX) Fire Station to Open in May

The 28,000 square foot station has more storage space, updated technology and room for more firefighters. The station is expected to open in May.  

"Other fire stations in the city were built for the day they opened, so this one is a very very big size but it's built to where if we need to add more companies, everything is here. It's just a matter of growing as the need determines," said McGregor.
