She grabbed a rock to avoid going over the falls, Whatcom Co. crews found a way to rescue her

It took "one of the better rescues we've ever done," according to Whatcom County Fire District 14 Chief Jerry Debruin, but crews were able to extract a 25-year-old female hiker/photographer from a rock in the middle of Racehorse Creek just above the large bottom waterfall at Racehorse Falls Saturday evening.

Brush fire near Selah burns almost 1,800 acres

A large brush fire that burned near Selah Saturday night and into Sunday morning is contained. According to the Washington State Department of Natural Resources, that fire burned approximately 1,789 acres since it started near Buffalo Road. Several fire crews, including DNR, Selah Fire Department and the Yakima Training Center all responded.

Update: State fines Camas $4,800 over firefighter safety violations

The Washington Department of Labor and Industry (L&I) has issued fines totalling $4,800 against the city of Camas for violating safe workplace standards and endangering Camas-Washougal Fire Department (CWFD) firefighters. The fines and related safe-workplace violations are connected to a Feb. 14 house fire in Camas’ Northwest Prune Hill neighborhood, in which two CWFD firefighters entered a burning, smoke-filled house to rescue a man and his two dogs.
