Update: Florida fire chief agrees to random drug testing after called out by union

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Chief Dennis Jones has agreed to submit to random drug tests as he seeks to require the same of rank and file firefighters and paramedics. The fire union is voting this week on a new contract that for the first time requires random drug testing of the county's first responders.

Firefighters rescue woman trapped in West Seattle rollover crash

PHOTO: Firefighters rescued a woman who was trapped when her vehicle rolled over and crashed Wednesday morning in West Seattle. Police and emergency crews responded to the scene, in the 2600 block of Walnut Avenue SW, at about 6:45 a.m. after receiving reports of a serious crash. A vehicle was found rolled over onto its side at the scene, with a woman trapped inside.

Car fire burns auto repair shop owner in Yakima

A man has been burned after a car inside his auto body shop caught fire in Yakima. A crew with the Yakima Fire Department (YFD) went to Central Auto Body & Painting, located at 2302 S. 1st Street, at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday. The fire prevention officer was the first to arrive and reported seeing black smoke coming from the front shop door.

SeaTac apartment fire sparked by cigarette butts in planter

Discarded cigarette butts in a planter sparked a fire at a SeaTac apartment building early Wednesday, officials said. The incident unfolded just before 2 a.m. when a resident at the Willow Lake Apartments spotted flames on the ground floor deck of a neighboring apartment. The resident called 911 and then ran across the courtyard and pounded on the door of the neighbor's apartment, waking up the woman who lives there.

Reward offered to solve arson fires in Olympia, Tumwater

An award from a $10,000 fund is being offered for information that leads to the arrest or conviction of those responsible for two fires set Monday at Jehovah Witness Centers in Olympia and Tumwater. Around 8:20 a.m. Monday, Olympia firefighters were called to the Kingdom Hall in Olympia for a fire.
