Sullivan Fire District Taxpayers Assist Neighboring District With Retired Pumper

According to Sullivan Assistant Chief Kyle Robertson, the Richwoods Fire Protection District took possession of the 1991 GMC pumper truck after the truck became surplus equipment in the Sullivan Fire District. The district received a new pumper in May.

The Sullivan Fire Protection District Board of Directors voted unanimously in their October meeting to sell the surplus truck to neighboring Richwoods for a symbolic one dollar price.

Boca Fire Rescue gets new technology aids

"We put the software in all eight stations and practiced for eight weeks and got input and opinions and made other adjustments," he added. "That beta-tested it for us."

 

Besides capturing data they don't have to input anymore, taking a photo of injuries and accidents, the new software has a wireless keyboard and can even dictate at a hospital. "We can transfer cardiac data to the cloud," Ashley said.

They transfer data to other devices and can even access Siri.

"It's a learning curve, including a re-send for corrections," Miller said. "Once we're in the field, we're making it better."

West Alexander VFC shows off new quarters

The new station features five spacious bays to house the trucks parked on an epoxy-coated floor.

“We actually have enough room to get in and out of the trucks,” the chief said, adding there is also more room to hang firefighters’ protective gear.

The department relied on grants and donations to finance the project. Graham said local residents also helped out. Two members of the community helped, donating time and equipment to raze the building. Other local contractors did carpentry, electrical, plumbing and heating work. The signs on the front of the building were made and painted by a local resident.

Grant helps West Lake Limestone VFD

“The truck and the slip-on unit are replacing an older, maintenance-troubled truck that the department built many years ago,” said West Lake Limestone VFD Fire Chief Allen McWhirter. “The new truck will take the older truck’s number. We appreciate having a vehicle equipped with a slip-on unit that includes a 500-gallon water tank and has foam capability.”

A slip-on unit is designed to become a fast, initial-attack firefighting unit. It is used in wildland firefighting as well as structure and auto fires and is a complete, self-contained firefighting apparatus designed for a pickup truck or custom-built vehicle platform.

Oso chaplain honored for aid, comfort in worst of times

When Oso chaplain Joel Johnson is called to a critical emergency situation or crime scene, odds are someone just lost their home, their life or that of a loved one, and any signs of hope. Johnson is director of Support 46, a program providing respite to on-scene emergency responders from Arlington Fire and Police departments.
