Florida paramedics were in and out of deadly nursing home as temperature climbed, but didn't see the crisis coming

Hollywood Fire Rescue crews were inside a hot nursing home to rescue dying people on the Monday after Hurricane Irma, then again Tuesday and twice Wednesday before forcing an evacuation. What they saw and how they responded inside the nursing home where 12 people died after 62 hours without air conditioning is the subject of a deposition examined by the South Florida Sun Sentinel.

Spokane firefighters battle winter weather obstacles

Cold temperatures can give firefighters a difficult time when they are on scene. Spokane County Fire District 4 Chief, Randy Johnson, said there are ways to help fire crews overcome cold temperatures Johnson said it starts with keeping the pumps on their apparatus drained in the station, so they are not carrying water as we drive to the incident within the pump.

Officials: Elwha River searched for Sequim woman believed to have jumped from bridge

A Coast Guard helicopter was unsuccessful Monday in finding the body of missing Sequim resident Jeri Lyn Smith, 68, who authorities said jumped from the Elwha River Road bridge west of Port Angeles and into the Elwha River over the weekend. “The helicopter didn’t locate her,” Brian King, Clallam County chief criminal deputy, said late Monday afternoon.

Update: Spokane City Council expected to approve $160K resolution for SFD air compressors

Spokane City Council approved an emergency resolution Monday night to allow the Spokane City Fire Department to buy two new breathing air compressors. This comes after contaminants were reportedly found in firefighters' air tanks. The state is now investigating a complaint that the air compressors were not serviced in a timely manner.
