Three pets die in Castle Rock fire

A house fire in Castle Rock killed two dogs and a cat Wednesday, according to Cowlitz 6 Fire & Rescue. The fire broke out at about 9:52 a.m. in the 100 block of Milton Road and was confined to one room in a one-story single family residence. Captain Andrew Schneider said no one was home at the time, and firefighters had it out by 10:10 a.

South Portland Fire Station Needs Major Renovations After Mold Discovered

A remediation assessment found that the age of the building, the way it was constructed and a lack of air handling systems contributed to the mold growth. The spokesman says the assessment also found that extensive renovations would be necessary to prevent the problem from recurring.

The city and fire department are expected to present a renovation proposal in the middle of next month. The building remains occupied.

Old Fort Niagara Receives New Fire Equipment

The custom-built trailer, equipped with nearly one thousand feet of hoses, a generator, dry hydrant, ladder and other tools, was funded by a $20,000 state grant. Old Fort Niagara Executive Director Robert Emerson told WBFO  the previous method for dealing with fires was inadequate.

Olympia woman dies after emergency crews tried to sedate her, police say

Police in Olympia say a 35-year-old woman died after emergency crews tried to sedate her early Wednesday. Olympia firefighters responded to a fire alarm at an apartment complex on the 1200 block of Fern Street Southwest shortly after 1 a.m. The woman pulled the fire alarm “while in crisis ... apparently suffering from mental illness and/or acute effects of substance use,” according to a news release.
