Noble said a working group tasked with making recommendations about possible repairs to the firehouse at 19 E. O'Reilly St. has met twice to review the findings of consultant C.T. Male Associates of Latham. He said the preliminary recommendation of the group is to explore the feasibility of building a new fire station.
"Toward that end, I expect to release a request for proposals later this spring to engage a firm that will assist us in assessing the scope and size of such a project and to identify potential locations for a new facility," Noble said in an email last week. "This feasibility study is the practical next step in this process and will provide the Common Council and myself the information necessary to make a final decision on the future of the Central Fire Station."
Making needed repairs to the firehouse and bringing the building up to code would cost about $3.8 million, according to the C.T. Male report.
