Public invited to view new fire station

It will be an opportunity to see what the fire department has been up to and to visit with Fire Pup and have pictures taken with the children. It’s also an opportunity to get a firsthand look at the new station and view equipment and ask questions.

In addition, Reno County EMS will have an ambulance and the Hutchinson Police Department will have a squad car to view. At the top of each hour, a 10-year lithium battery smoke detector will be given away, so place your name in the box for a chance to win.

Middletown Fire Department: 8 Goals to Reach in Next Few Years

For the past several months, a strategic planning process has been underway that included input from residents, business leaders, firefighters and police to develop a plan to guide the Middletown Division of Fire.

“We’ve been reactive to issues and this allows us to be more proactive by planning things years out,” Middletown Assistant Fire Chief Tom Snively said of the 27-page plan released this week.

Firefighters knock down flames at Sunshine Motel fire in Yakima

Firefighters have knocked down flames in a buildings at the Sunshine Motel on North First Street and are now in a mop up phase, pulling down sections of a ceiling to ensure the fire is completely out. The fire started in a dumpster and spread to one of the motel's detached buildings that contains several units.

Orting: 911 calls released in pit bull attack on UPS driver

KIRO 7 obtained the 911 call from a UPS driver who was attacked by five pit bulls while making a delivery to a home near Orting on Sept. 13. UPS driver Kevin Backlund called 911 saying he was trapped on a flatbed trailer surrounded by angry, barking pit bulls. Backlund: “I’ve been attacked by five pit bulls.

Death toll hits 31; wildfires become deadliest in California's history

After four days of terrorizing Wine Country and surrounding regions, the Northern California wildfires on Thursday became the deadliest in state history, with 31 confirmed fatalities and more expected. The most destructive of those, the Tubbs fire, killed at least 15 people, and new figures told of its destruction.
