PORT ARANSAS (KIII NEWS) - Every single fire truck and emergency vehicle in Port Aransas was totaled -- destroyed by flooding and debris from Hurricane Harvey. But now, they have one usable fire truck thanks to a fellow fire department up north.

County Firefighters Protest Funding Shortfall

CHATHAM - After being denied $116,000 to outfit a special ops truck, the Pittsylvania County Fire and Rescue Association ditchedthe truck on Main Street in Chatham, directly in front of the courthouse, and left it for the county administration to deal with.

After being denied $116,000 to outfit a special ops truck, the Pittsylvania County Fire and Rescue Association ditchedthe truck on Main Street in Chatham, directly in front of the courthouse, and left it for the county administration to deal with.


The truck has never run a call because it lacks the necessary emergency equipment, even though it was bought a year ago specifically so the volunteer fire and rescue departments could do such technical rescues as water or cliff rescues.

Fire destroys home north of Kendall

Fire destroyed a home north of Kendall early Thursday. Chief Jerry DeBruin of Whatcom County Fire District 14 said the double-wide mobile home was a total loss in the 3:18 a.m. fire at 8657 Valley Court, east of Kendall Road. “The back bedroom window had broken and flames were shooting out” when firefighters arrived, DeBruin said.

Former New York fire chief files suit against city

Former Canandaigua Fire Chief Mark Marentette has filed a complaint against the City of Canandaigua, saying his constitutional right to a fair hearing was violated. The suit seeks compensatory and punitive damages that include compensation for the loss of reputation and back and future pay. Marentette, who was terminated from his position in April, is also seeking reinstatement as Fire Chief.

Fired Rhode Island firefighter testifies he’s victim of retaliation

A fired East Greenwich firefighter testified Wednesday that he learned of his termination during an emotional late-night call from his brother. James Perry said he was in bed when his brother, William Perry, called his cellphone around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 19. “He said, ‘I got an email you were terminated tonight,’” James Perry said.
