San Bernardino County Fire was welcomed this week to submit its second “best and final offer” to the city for handling services beyond June 30, when its contract officially expires. But elected officials were still proceeding with plans to reactivate a city-run department.
Mayor Pro Tem Jim Cox was clear to temper Tuesday evening that an absolute decision had not been made, a suggestion that the Council still maintained a collective open mind to renewing a contract with County Fire.

Catoosa County commissioners recently approved a change order that will save the county a little more than $36,000 on its planned purchase of five pumper tanker trucks for the fire department. On Aug. 15, the county officials approved purchase of more than $2.5 million worth of trucks and equipment for its fire department: the five pumper tankers, and six smaller, more frequently used trucks.

"We're requesting to accept the change orders from Rosenbauer for different body and chassis adjustments to the five pumper tankers we currently have on order," Camp said. "The change order results in a savings of $36,590. The way this came about is some things we had specified in our bid process were basically name brand items like the ladders on the back that we were able to change."
