Larry Verducci looked at the smoldering hillside and realized just how “very lucky” they were.
“It could have been a whole different scenario,” he said Friday.
Verducci’s home and about two dozen others were threatened by a large brush fire Sept. 14. They were all ordered to evacuate.
But then the “heroes arrived,” he said of helicopters from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office and Department of Natural Resources.

Police have arrested two young boys in connection with a suspicious house fire in Freeland last month.
The boys, both 15, allegedly confessed to being involved in the suspected arson case, the Island County Sheriff’s Office announced.
“The suspects are a (sic) two 15 year old males, one of which lives in the area,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Dozens of residents are displaced after a massive, four-alarm fire at an apartment complex in SeaTac Friday afternoon.
Crews were called to the Carriage House Apartments located at 3600 S. 180th Street around 4:00 p.m. after a neighbor reported seeing smoke coming from one of the buildings.
Firefighters arrived to find flames and thick plumes of smoke shooting out from the rooftops on two sides of the two-story complex.

SALISBURY - The city will hold an open house at Fire Station No. 3 Sunday to solicit residents' opinions about a future location for the station. Salisbury Communications Director Linda McElroy said Thursday the purpose of the open house, which will be held at the current station at 1604 W.
Including teh community in decisions for your fire department can be critical to establishing good will toward the department and its members. Being sensitive to the effects a station could have on residences in a particular area is key.
