Ready for Battle

A new fire engine is in town and two more are on the way as the Tracy Fire Department looks to fill some crucial firefighting needs. A HME Inc. 34D Wildland Type III engine arrived in late August to help fight fires in rural Tracy.

A HME Inc. 34D Wildland Type III engine arrived in late August to help fight fires in rural Tracy. An aerial ladder truck is under construction, and a new hazardous materials engine destined for Tracy, sponsored by the California Office of Emergency Services, is also coming soon.


David Bramell, division chief with the Tracy Fire Department, said the engines and truck will help fill some critical gaps.

L.A. Fire Department's newest helicopter lost control while fighting Burbank fire, report says

A preliminary report says the pilot of the Los Angeles Fire Department's newest helicopter reported that the aircraft made uncommanded movements before hitting trees while making a water drop on a wildfire. The National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday that the Leonardo AW139 helicopter was substantially damaged but the crew was not injured in the Sept.

The report says the pilot was in a descending flight profile about 100 feet above trees at about 40 knots when the helicopter began an uncommanded yaw to the right and descent increased.


The pilot released the water and the helicopter continued to yaw and descend. The pilot reported he had little positive control before hitting the trees. The yaw decreased and the pilot regained control, then made an emergency landing.

Ocean City (NJ) OKs Purchase of Aerial Ladder

Ocean City is buying a million-dollar fire truck that will improve the fire department's ability to fight high-rise blazes. The $1.1 million heavy duty aerial ladder truck will replace an aging fire truck plagued by mechanical problems that have cost the city tens of thousands of dollars in repair bills in the past year alone, city officials said...
OCNJ Daily reported on Ocean City's move to purchase a new Pierce aerial ladder. The truck is expected to be delivered next year.

City Business Administrator Jim Mallon explained that the truck’s 107-foot-high boom arm is needed to fight high-rise fires that could strike the taller hotels and condominiums in town.

FL Man Tries to Steal Fire Truck While Crews Respond to Call

CBS12 reported on the case of a drunk man who allegedly tried to steal a Tamarac Fire Rescue apparatus, according to authorities.

Authorities say a fire rescue lieutenant heard the air brakes on the truck release and saw the man at the wheel. Unable to get the truck into gear, the man allegedly bailed out and made a run for it.

Homeless man pleads guilty for destructive fire at Bellevue mosque

A homeless man charged for a January fire that badly damaged a mosque in Bellevue pleaded guilty Friday morning to first-degree reckless burning in King County Superior Court. Isaac Wayne Wilson, 37, was originally charged with second-degree arson and held on $1 million bail for the Jan. 14 fire at the Islamic Center of the Eastside.
