During budget sessions in the spring of 2015, when the project was first considered, then-Fire Chief William Nelson, who passed away this spring, told the council that Station 4 is the second-busiest fire station in the city and the only one to house a heavy rescue unit. The station was built in 1968 and was expanded in 1988. The former station was the smallest fire station in the city.

During the grand opening for the new Fire Station 4 Aug. 22, Troy City Manager Brian Kischnick said Nelson would be proud. Station 4 is dedicated to Nelson.

Only one of the four stations being renovated or replaced beat the 5-minute-30-second-goal last fiscal year.

After a nearly two-year process, Park, Holland and Zeeland townships are ready to receive their brand new fire engines.

The engine was in the northbound lane of Louisiana 435 near Bob Levy Road near the eastern edge of St. Tammany parish when it ran off the road and rolled over several times at around 8:30 p.m. The accident is under investigation by the fire district and the Louisiana State Police.
