The South Snohomish County Fire and Rescue Regional Fire Authority (RFA) met for the first time on Sunday to establish the authority as a governing body, swear in the RFA board and swear in the new fire chief. The group met on Sunday because it was Oct. 1, which is the first date the RFA could officially form based on a ballot that was approved by 54.

Firefighters had to free a man Sunday afternoon after a tree fell on him in his backyard. Eastside Fire and Rescue says a man in his 70s was on a ladder cutting a tree when the ladder fell and the tree trapped him Firefighters manged to free him, and he was taken to a hospital. The man reportedly suffered a fractured leg The incident occurred in the 18900 block of Southeast May Valley Road.

Traffic slowed down on Highway 240 Saturday in Kennewick due to a brush fire. According to the Kennewick Fire Department, they received the first call about this fire at 6:45 P.M. The fire took place on the south side of the highway between the exits for Edison Street and Columbia Center Boulevard. Firefighters say it burned about a third of an acre.
