Elkhart (TX) City Council Votes to Evict VFD from City-Owned Fire Station

After more than 80 years of service, the Elkhart Volunteer Fire Department will shut down on Oct. 26. Members of the Elkhart City Council on Tuesday voted 5-0 to evict the fire department from its city-owned fire station downtown. One council-member, Rhonda Brewer, abstained.
The move will save the city of 1,321 people about $10,000 a year. The Elkhart Volunteer Fire Department started in 1936.

"We've been wrestling with this for quite a while," Elkhart Mayor Mike Gordon said. "It's time for it to end, so the city and the fire department can move on."

DeKalb County (GA) Firefighters Say Improvements Needed at Several Fire Stations

It will be up to DeKalb county voters to say yes to a one percent sales tax in November that will fund new fire stations.
The DeKalb County fire union posted a letter to Facebook that was an appeal to the board of county commissioners to allow a SPLOST vote in November. It would be a one cent sales tax that would go only to building and equipment improvements.

Six Milwaukee Fire Stations Slated to Close in 2018

Six fire stations are slated to close under Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett's 2018 budget proposal. The Milwaukee Fire Department announced the plans after Barrett's budget address on Tuesday. "It's always difficult to lose capacity," Fire Chief Mark Rohlfing said. "We're a very busy Fire Department."
The department has 36 stations and is proposing closing these six:

Station 3, 100 W. Virginia St.
Station 5, 1313 W. Reservoir Ave.
Station 6, 1693 N. Franklin Place, on the corner of Brady St.
Station 25, 300 S. 84th St.
Station 28, 424 N. 30th St.
Station 31, 2400 S. 8th St.

La Center High student collapses, revived by Clark County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief

A student at La Center High School collapsed in the parking lot Wednesday morning, but luckily a firefighter was already at the school and ran to help. The girl had a medical incident and was found unconscious and was not breathing in the parking lot just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, prompting an emergency response.

Collision near Prosser kills 1, injures 2 more

One person is dead and two more seriously hurt Tuesday afternoon when two cars collided on Highway 221, five miles south of Prosser. The Life Flight Network flew the most critical person to an area hospital, while Benton County Fire District 6 paramedics took another by ambulance, said West Benton Fire Rescue.
