Firefighters made short work of a fast-moving grass fire near Omak Tuesday evening. The fire, which was burning on a hillside south of the old Omak Wood Products mill, was contained by 6 p.m., said Okanogan County Emergency Manager Maurice Goodall. “We had good response. They had three drops from aircraft, which was probably a big help,” he said.

The Woodland-area fire district levy passed, and voters in the district sent incumbent Jim Kellar and Dean Boon on to square off in the November general election. The levy, which District 1 officials said is needed to replace aging equipment, got 64 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary election.

It's been nearly two months since Anchorage firefighter, Ben Schultz, was critically injured after falling off a ladder at AFD and Monday his family witnessed a long awaited moment. According to his father, Jeff Schultz, Ben spoke a few words Monday which are the first words he has spoken since his fall on June 5.
