Wind-whipped wildfires roared to life Sunday night and early Monday across Wine Country, burning buildings, forcing hundreds of evacuations and injuring several people, reports CBS San Francisco. The Atlas Peak fire was the largest, quickly growing to more than 200 acres near Napa. Meanwhile, a fire near Calistoga had burned several buildings, sent several people to the hospital to be treated for burns and prompted mandatory evacuations along several roads.

A 70-year-old woman was killed in an Ocean Shores house fire early Saturday morning in the 100 block of Victoria Loop. The fire occurred at 12;45 a.m. while the Ocean Shores Fire Department also was handling two simultaneous medical aid calls, which left only one firefighter to initially respond to the blaze in the northeastern neighborhood of the city.

Pierce County firefighters quickly knocked down a two-alarm fire at a downtown Puyallup restaurant Sunday. It happened around noon at the Meridian Cafe in the 200 block of North Meridian Street. Customers were in the restaurant. Police say everyone got out safely. Officials at the scene say there was construction work occurring on the roof when the fire happened.
