Construction of the firehouse and EMS station on a 3-acre tract on Commerce Street initially had a projected end date of August. Rain and a few other delays have pushed back the timeline, and officials now believe the station should be completed by Oct. 1, he said.
The outside of the structure is deceptive, looking as though the station is almost ready for move-in. Exposed insulation and bare walls inside show it still has some ways to go.
The first floor will include conference and training rooms, a reception area and storage; upstairs will include a few dorms, men’s and women’s showers and bathrooms, a full kitchen, lounge area and plenty of space to activate an Emergency Operations Center in the event of a disaster. The garage can house up to three ambulances, two pumper trucks and one ladder truck
