Active shooter drill brings Airway Heights first responders together

First responders in Airway Heights participated in an active shooter drill at Sunset Elementary Wednesday. The exact scenario they encountered was a surprise to them. Multiple first responder participated in the drill. That included members of the Airway Heights Fire Department, Airway Heights Police Department, American Medical Response, Fire District 10, Cheney School District, Eastern Washington University Police and Fairchild Air Force Base began the drill at 8:30 a.

Vancouver woman sent to hospital after fire at manufactured home

A woman was sent to an area hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation after a fire damaged a manufactured home. Firefighters were called to Nomad Country Club Mobile Home, 10505 N.E. 53rd Ave., at about 4:15 a.m. today, Vancouver Fire Department spokesman Joe Spatz said. A female resident was already outside when firefighters arrived, Spatz said.

Cascadia Tech Academy Fire cadets plan on continuing service

Skyview High School senior Nathan Holmgren, 18, earned the Fire Cadet Distinguished Graduate Award in his second year of the Fire Cadet Program as part of Cascadia Tech Academy in Vancouver. The award is the “equivalent of being selected the valedictorian of a graduating senior class,” Cascadia Tech Academy Director Mark Mansell said in a release.

Clark County Fire District 3 moves to extinguish emergency reserve losses

Clark County Fire District 3 hopes to stop the hemorrhaging of its emergency reserves by bumping a fire levy back up to $1.42 per $1,000 of assessed property value. FD3 contracts with the city of Battle Ground and serves 40,000 people across 84 square miles, including Hockinson, Finn Hill, Brush Prairie, Battle Ground Lake, Heisson and Lucia Falls.

Clark County Fire & Rescue hopes to revive Charter Oak fire station

According to Fire Chief John Nohr, the first thing Clark County Fire & Rescue plans to do if their levy lid lift is approved by voters is re-staff Charter Oak, station 22, in north Battle Ground. Earlier this year, Clark County Fire & Rescue’s Board of Fire Commissioners approved a 9-cent levy lid lift proposal, which will appear on ballots in August.
