Marin Firefighter Injured after Engine Crashes into Tree

A Marin County firefighter was taken to the hospital with "non-critical" facial injuries after the fire engine he was taking to a vehicle accident crashed into a fir tree on Mount Tamalpais on Saturday, authorities said. Engine 1585, from out of the Throckmorton Ridge Fire Station, was responding to a vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on Panoramic Highway just after 10 a.m.

The engineer driving the truck was uninjured but the passenger, a 24-year-old seasonal firefighter whose name was not released, suffered injuries and was taken to Marin General Hospital. The firefighter as of Saturday afternoon was reportedly in an emergency room in stable condition.


The fire engine’s cab was totalled, McTigue said.


“It’ll be taken over to the county garage,” he said. “The mechanic will start looking at it to look at the extent of damage.”

Gym owner charged with murder in fire that killed Texas firefighter

The owner of The Spartan Box, a gym in the Ingram Square Shopping Center, has been arrested for numerous felony charges, including murder and arson, after an investigation concluded he was responsible for setting a fire that claimed the life of one firefighter, and severely injured another. According to the Bexar County District Attorney's Office, Emond Johnson is the man that has been arrested and charged with a first-degree felony count of murder, two first degree felony counts of arson and bodily injury, two second-degree felony counts of arson, and two third-degree felony counts of family-related assault charges.

California city council close to approving first pay raise for firefighters in eight years

Costa Mesa firefighters could receive their first pay raise in 8 years and contribute more toward retirement under a new agreement between the city and their union. The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday, Oct. 3, to move forward with the proposed 4-year contract with the Costa Mesa Firefighters Association, which expires June 30, 2021, at the first of 2 public hearings.

12 Atlanta firefighter paramedics may not have had proper training, audit shows

After more than a year on the job, 12 Atlanta firefighter paramedics didn't have the proper paperwork to prove they’d passed all the necessary training, according to an audit obtained by Channel 2 Action News. Those 12 were pulled off the streets and put back in training. Paul Gerdis, with Atlanta Professional Firefighters, said only 12 of the 25 who graduated in the class of 2016 passed the paramedics test.
