The fire truck has been a long time coming. The current aging Engine 1 is a 1996 model at the end of its life expectancy as a primary engine. The $590,000 new truck was paid for through a general obligation bond passed by taxpayers in November 2015.

The Montesano City Council is being asked to green light the purchase of a new ambulance.
The ambulance will be a “medium duty” model and will replace the city’s 2006 ambulance. Fire Chief Corey Rux says the 2006 ambulance is at the end of its service life.
While medium duty models are more expensive initially, Rux said he believes the medium duty ambulances outlast light duty models by five years.

Emergency dispatch services for Clallam and Jefferson counties are getting closer to a regionalization shift.
Clallam County Peninsula Communications (PenCom) and JeffCom 911 Communications — the 9-1-1 communication dispatch service for Jefferson County — have made small steps to potentially merge together as a consolidated emergency dispatch service, according to Regional Emergency Communications Director Karl Hatton.

Federal Way Auto Wrecking suffered a total loss after a fire engulfed their 2,600 -square-foot building Wednesday morning.
South King Fire and Rescue responded to the business, 37430 Military Road South, at 1:18 a.m.
Deputy Chief Gordon Goodsell said the building was very old and large, which required firefighters to be there for about seven hours as they worked to extinguish the fire.

A firefighter was lowered down a 200-foot elevator shaft Wednesday — six times the distance of any practice run — to help rescue four men trapped in an elevator at a Brooklyn Con Edison plant.
