Richland Firetruck Engine Blows Up and Starts Fire

A month-and-a-half-old Richland fire truck is toast after it’s engine blew up, destroying the truck and sparking a blaze along Interstate 82 Monday afternoon. The truck lost power and brakes before the firefighter did an amazing job of pulling the now-on-fire truck over to the side of the interstate about 2 miles outside of Finley.

New EMS Station in Works for Florence County (SC)

There are new efforts to help get you emergency services faster. Florence County Council is moving forward with yet another project voters approved in the second capital sales project. A new EMS station is soon to come to a part of the county in need.
Ball Park Road, near the Honda Plant in Timmonsville, will soon be the area where that new EMS Station is built.

The project will cost a total of $750,000.

Herrin, Johnston City (IL) Swap Firefighting Equipment

Herrin has donated a 55-foot 1984 reserve ladder truck to Johnston City in exchange for various pieces of firefighting equipment. On Thursday, officials from both cities celebrated their common ground. "When fighting fires, we are on the same team," said Herrin Mayor Steve Frattini said.

Virginia Beach Ambulance Catches Fire at Hospital

An ambulance caught fire this afternoon outside of Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital shortly after its crew took a patient into the emergency area, a spokesman for the city's Emergency Medical Services said. No one was inside the vehicle at the time and no one was injured, said EMS Division Chief Bruce Nedelka.
The ambulance was parked away from the building and other vehicles, he said. The crew noticed smoke coming from under the hood after walking out to the parking lot, Nedelka said.

"Within moments, it began to catch fire," he said. "An EMS supervisor was there and he called the fire department. They responded quickly and extinguished the fire as quickly as they could."
