Anonymous donor saves the day: Life jackets restocked at Selah Fire Station

An anonymous donation has restored life jackets at the Selah Fire Station after the department said none of them had been brought back after they had been borrowed. The Selah Fire Department said they haven't gotten the original loaner life jackets back, but an anonymous donation has allowed them to put more loaners up for use.

Kitten gets name ‘Stuckey’ after firefighters rescue it from truck in Auburn

PHOTOS: Engine 334 from Valley Fire rescued a kitten after it got stuck in a truck in Auburn on Wednesday. Firefighters were in the Lea Hill neighborhood when they found the kitten in a “precarious position with its head wedged into the hinge of the passenger door of a pickup truck,” said Valley Fire.

VIDEO: Massive apartment fire in Texas injures 2, forces dozens from their homes

A massive fire at a North Side apartment complex has sent two people to the hospital and forced more than a dozen others out of their homes early Thursday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department. The fire was called in just before 3 a.m. at the ICON Apartments in the 1300 block of Patricia Drive, not far from both Blanco Road and Churchill High School.

Device designed by University of Miami graduate students may help protect firefighters from harmful chemicals

Chitvan Killawala and Umer Bakali want to help protect firefighters from a potential threat. Their strategy to do so does not involve creating a better forcible-entry axe or a thicker face shield but deploying a device no bigger than a USB flash drive. The two University of Miami graduate students have developed a special sensor capable of detecting the real-time presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the warm zone at structural fires.

Firefighters in one Indiana county concerned about responding to warehouse fires

As warehouses continue to pop up in western Hancock County, local fire departments are sounding the alarm. The firefighter’s union said they simply don’t have the staff to fight fires at those massive buildings. At 2.2 million square feet, a brand-new Walmart distribution center in western Hancock County is the largest in the world.
