Man dies in Vancouver house fire

A fire on West 30th Street in Vancouver Tuesday evening claimed a man’s life, according to firefighters. The fire at 516 W. 30th St. was reported at 6:42 p.m. by a passer-by, who told dispatchers that someone was still inside the burning house. Vancouver firefighters arrived to find smoke coming from the front of the house, said Darrin Deming, a spokesman for the Vancouver Fire Department Firefighters tried to enter through the front door to in an attempt to effect a rescue, but, “They were met with extremely high heat and very low visibility, and were forced to back out,” Deming said.

Clallam County Fire District 3 responds to shed fire on Olson Road

Clallam County Fire District 3 responded around 4 p.m. Monday, March 27, to a shed fire at 130 Olson Road near Taylor Cutoff Road. The fire was contained about 20 feet from a home owned by Helga Johnson who said she lost many personal items in the fire, including family pictures. Neighbors attempted to extinguish the fire before firefighters arrived on scene.

Camano Island Fire and Rescue passes two state audits

Washington State Auditor’s office released two separate, clean audits of Camano Island Fire and Rescue (CIFR) — one focused on finances and one on accountability. The audits covered fiscal years 2014 and 2015, and found no problems or issues within the department. “The state auditors are professionals who make sure we’re transparent and accountable to our taxpayers,” said Chief Michael Schick.

DNR asks state lawmakers for $13 million for training & equipment for upcoming fire season new

The Washington State Department of Natural Resources said Monday if they don’t get additional funding for training and equipment, the 2017 wildfire season will start with a deficit. “We actually have a greater need to replace equipment because of those back-to-back fire seasons that put a tremendous amount of stress on our fleet,” said Bob Johnson, who works for the DNR.
