New Fire Station Opens in Forsyth County (GA)

Forsyth County officials officially opened the new Fire Station 8 serving the northeast part of the county with a hose-uncoupling ceremony on Friday. Fire Chief Danny Bowman said the new facility is a vast improvement over its much smaller 1984-era predecessor which was built by volunteers.

Its replacement is a 4-stall facility and is designed to allow for future growth and development.

Colleton County Fire-Rescue Chief Barry McRoy said before the new ambulance station can go on-line, Station No. 7 will have to be altered to provide sleeping quarters for the personnel manning the ambulance.

He pointed out that the existing fire station already has a kitchen and restroom facilities. The changes necessary to provide living quarters, he added, are anticipated to cost over $60,000.

Grants Boost Fire Department

FARNHAMVILLE - Volunteer firefighters in the Farnhamville area will soon have new light bars on their trucks with help from a $2,500 grant from the Monsanto Fund-sponsored America's Farmers Grow Communities program. The program is open to any farmer, said Steve Peterson, treasurer for the Reading-Cedar Fire Department located in Farnhamville.

Some of the existing, rotating lights are from the mid-80s, he said. The new LED units are brighter and more effective, and will improve safety, Peterson said.

The department will also replace some large flashlights with new LED ones, which have a little more punch using less power.

Sherman to Get Design for New Fire Station

More than a year and a half after plans to relocate the Blalock Park Fire Station were first announced, Sherman has awarded a contract for the design of the new station.The Sherman City Council recently approved a contract for professional consulting services with EIKON Consulting Group LLC to design a new Sherman Fire Station No.

The Sherman Economic Development Corp. purchased the 13 acres next to the fire station at that time for $575,000 from Garcha Corp. of Plano.

The contract with EIKON to design the new fire station is for $342,900. Hefton said he expects the design and engineering work to be done by EIKON will take about six months.

Alternative Response Truck Asset in Department's Fleet

For the Farmington Fire Department, the safety and the well-being of the community is always the main concern. Whether it is specialized training or adopting a new service, the protection of the community is top priority. The alternative response truck and its two-man crew is the department's newest effort to help maintain that commitment.

The fire department’s alternative response truck test program was developed to address the high percentage of EMS calls that his department must make every year.

In addition, the program will also play a big part in reducing the department’s response time, especially in the case of simultaneous calls.
