Northside Volunteer Fire Department Opens New Station

ROCKINGHAM - "It's been a long project," Jim Chavis said Saturday afternoon at the grand opening of the new station of the Northside Volunteer Fire Department. "It's been a very involved project," he continued. "And that's the reason it's been a long project.
The station features three drive-through bays with wider and taller doors, as well as training room, and sits on a tract of land just shy of five acres.

Woman Killed in Accident Involving Fire Truck in Ypsilanti (MI)

YPSILANTI, Mich. (WXYZ) - One person was killed and two others were injured in a crash involving a fire truck in Washtenaw County. It happened on westbound I-94 near Grove Street in Ypsilanti. Firefighters were on the highway responding to a rollover accident when the driver of another vehicle slammed into the back of their truck, according to fire crews.

The 30-year-old driver and his 15-year-old daughter were being treated at a nearby hospital. The 15-year-old who died on the scene was reportedly a friend of the driver's daughter.

Princeville Sends Fire Engine to Town Destroyed by Tornado

One Eastern Carolina town that has known its share of tragedy from the weather is sending a firetruck to another shaken by Mother Nature. Princeville sent a fire engine to Autryville after the Sampson County town lost three firetrucks in a tornado Tuesday.

Autryville Fire Chief Andrew Hawkins says they have received help from all corners of North Carolina and a loaner truck from a station in Virginia and South Carolina.

Sinkhole Forms at New Palmyra Fire Station

Fire officials in Palmyra are dealing with a sinkhole that has formed at the new Palmyra fire station. The sinkhole will be evaluated Tuesday even as the department prepares to move into the building - a move that has been in the planning stage for 20 years, according to a report by ABC27.

Palmyra Fire Department Chief Dave Dugan told ABC27 the sinkhole was discovered Monday morning, but he believes the building itself is not in jeopardy.

Fire Truck Crash Kills Firefighter, Injures Another

UPDATE: Late Monday night, The Missouri State Highway Patrol released the names of the two firefighters involved in a deadly Memorial Day fire truck crash in northeast Missouri.Investigators said the driver of the fire truck, Jesse Ketchum, 33, of Downing,

According to the crash report, the truck left the right side of Highway 15, the driver overcorrected, then returned to the roadway, where the truck overturned several times, ejecting both men.

One was pronounced dead at the scene. The crash reports states that neither firefighter was wearing a seat belt.
