Spokane Fire Department adding three new drones to team

Washington wildfire season officially started this weekend and the Spokane Fire Department is preparing by adding three new drones to the team in June. Spokane will become the only city in the Northwest to use drones. The drones will be used for specific, important purposes. On April 12, rescuers scrambled to save a suicidal man from the banks of the Spokane River.

One injured in Everett apartment fire

One person was injured in a two-alarm apartment fire in Everett Tuesday morning. It started around 5 a.m. at the Highlander Apartments across from Wiggums Hollow Park. Everett firefighters said they arrived to find flames shooting from a second-floor window. The entire complex was evacuated as a precaution.

Olympia firefighters capture transformer explosion on video

The Olympia Fire Department responded Monday to reports that a tree caught fire after falling into powerlines at Morse-Merryman and Wiggins roads, ultimately causing a small explosion of a power transformer that was captured on video. The explosion occurred about 10:30 a.m. Monday in southeast Olympia.

Heater sparks fire in unoccupied Lacey house

Crews from Lacey Fire District 3 extinguished a fire about 1 a.m. Monday in an unoccupied house in the 3600 block of Arbor Drive Southeast near Long Lake. The fire was caused by a heater that was running in the garage and was “too close to combustibles,” Battalion Chief Ryan Fox said. The homeowner had been painting the two-story house’s interior and had removed all of the doors inside, which allowed the fire to spread easily and rapidly, Fox said.
