Update: October's Fatal Chimney Condo fire in Downtown Bellevue ruled an accident

The October 2016 fire in Downtown Bellevue’s Chimney Condominiums which killed two and injured two more has officially been ruled an accident. The blaze started in the early evening on Oct. 24, 2016. Calls to the Bellevue Fire Department came in at approximately 7:30 p.m. The Chimney Condominiums were a three-story complex located near Bellevue Downtown Park on 110th Avenue Northeast.

Spokane Valley Fire Dept. earned best rating in Eastern Washington; insurance rates likely to fall

Homeowners insurance in Spokane Valley, Liberty Lake and Millwood just got a little cheaper as the Spokane Valley Fire Department received an improved rating from the Washington Surveying and Rating Bureau. Spokane Valley is only the fifth department to earn the rating statewide and the only department in Eastern Washington.

Vancouver fire truck damaged by falling tree can be reparied

The fire truck damaged by a falling tree last week during strong winds can be repaired, Vancouver Fire Chief Joe Molina said. Parts have been ordered for the truck and it should be headed to the body shop for work soon, Molina said. A reserve truck is being used in place of the damaged truck, which will be out of service for four to six weeks, Molina said.

Man lucky to be alive after plunging into river from Monroe Street Bridge in Spokane

A man is lucky to be alive after surviving a drop from the Monroe Street Bridge into the raging Spokane River below on Wednesday evening. That man remains in the hospital. Firefighters say they can't believe he actually survived. "I was not expecting a successful rescue at all," said Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer.

Retired Kennewick fire chief dies at 89

A retired Kennewick fire chief died Monday at age 89. Donald “Gene” Graves was a lifelong resident of Kennewick. Graves graduated from Kennewick High School and served in the Navy Seabees for two years on Guam, Herald archives show. After he was discharged, he went to work with his brothers at Graves Auto Service in Kennewick.
