Spontaneous combustion may have caused Lacey laundromat fire

Lacey Fire District 3 responded to a small fire in a laundromat on Monday evening at the Tanglewilde Shopping Center, in the 7000 block of Martin Way East. The fire was reported at 10:28 p.m., according to a Thurston County dispatcher. No injuries were reported, the dispatcher said. The fire was contained to two dryer units, according to a post by Lacey Fire on Twitter.

Spokane: Two families displaced after duplex fire in Logan neighborhood

Two Spokane families were displaced after a large fire caused heavy damage to an upper level duplex unit on Monday night. Just after 7:00 p.m., Spokane Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire near East Augusta Avenue and North Astor Street. Crews found fire involvement in the upper level of the multi-story duplex.

Whatcom County EMS levy approved by razor-thin margin; no automatic recount

Voters have narrowly approved a ballot proposal to fund the county’s emergency services, by 64,252 to 42,767 votes, a margin of 60.04 percent, according final election figures from the Whatcom County Auditor’s Office released at 5:15 p.m. Monday. Because it is a property tax, local Proposition No. 2016-1 required a 60 percent approval margin in order to pass.

Former New York fire chief ‘died doing what he loved’

Merle L. Nell. For 51 years, he dedicated his time and service to his community as a proud member of the Vernon Fire Department, responding to hundreds upon hundreds of calls. Merle joined the department in 1965, when members were required to live within one mile of the station in order to hear the fire whistle from their homes.

Hotels, homes destroyed in Tennessee wildfires

Hundreds of structures have been destroyed by wildfires in Tennessee and more than 14,000 people have been evacuated from the Gatlinburg area, the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency reported Tuesday morning. About 100 homes have been damaged or destroyed by flames from spreading wildfires, state emergency officials said.
