Old Augusta (GA) Fire Apparatus Gets New Mission of Honor

An old fire engine is getting an upgrade to better send firefighters to their final resting place. The 1991 fire engine will soon be used only as a funeral truck. It will be the only one in the Augusta area. Traditionally, a fire engine takes a firefighter's casket to its final resting place.
A fire department takes a normal truck out of service and removes its hoses and dividers to make room for the casket, which rides atop the fire engine. The problem is getting it up there.

Toting a casket, which can weigh from 100 to 300 pounds by itself, even a short distance can be difficult, and even more so lifting it to the top of a fire engine.

Ceres (CA) Fire Apparatus in Collision En Route to Accident

A Ceres Fire Department truck was on its way to an injury accident scene on Monday when it was involved in a separate traffic collision. Firefighters were heading to the scene of an accident on southbound Highway 99 at Whitmore Avenue, authorities said. The first accident included a vehicle that had rolled over.
The firetruck was on Mitchell Road and stopped because traffic was backed up from the first accident. A vehicle failed to stop and struck the vehicle behind the fire truck, which then was rear-ended, authorities said.

Explosion at scrap metal yard in Pacific kills man

A man in his 60s died Monday after a reported explosion at a scrap metal dealer in Pacific. According to Valley Regional Fire, crews were called around 11:30 a.m. to Metal Express on Thornton Ave SW. Medics said the victim was dead when they arrived. Witnesses told authorities that the man was working on top of a bus when an explosion threw him 25 feet.

DuBois (PA) Fire Department Helps Small Virginia Fire Company

DuBOIS - DuBois Volunteer Fire Department responded to an unusual rescue call this weekend. The fire department helped an out-of-state fire company that needed assistance. The five DuBois fire companies sorted through their old, unused equipment and gear and loaded it into a trailer Saturday to be transported to a small fire station in Virginia.

One Dead in Joelton (TN) Crash Involving Nashville Fire Department SUV

Authorities say one person is dead and another is seriously injured following a crash involving a Nashville Fire Department vehicle in Joelton. The wreck was reported just after 8 a.m. at 5335 Whites Creek Pike, according to authorities. Nashville fire spokesman Brian Haas said the person who died was a civilian.

Haas said the fire department employee was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center to be treated for serious but stable injuries.
