A Buchanan County ambulance sustained heavy damage in an accident with a private vehicle Tuesday morning on Frederick Boulevard over the Interstate 29 overpass. No one suffered serious injuries in the accident, which resulted in traffic delays shortly after 6 a.m. until the scene was cleared after 8 a.m.

The Duluth Fire Department showed off two new fire engines on Monday -- engines specially designed to meet the needs of firefighters and the unique requirements of Duluth. The engines cost $550,000 apiece and feature upgraded brakes for Duluth's hills.

The Sandy Springs City Council has authorized the city manager to contract with Pierce Manufacturing Inc. for a new fire engine/pumper. The city will pay $560,620 for the engine, and $82,279 for firefighting gear to equip it, through Ten-8 Fire and Safety Equipment of Georgia, according to a staff report.

A fire engine in southwest Wilmington that had been idled during staffing shortages has been put back in service. Engine 6, a fire suppression vehicle at Third and Union streets, will respond to calls while the city completes "an assessment of departmental fire operations," John Rago, Mayor Mike Purzycki's deputy chief of staff for policy and communications.

The driver of a Jacksonville Fire-Rescue truck that crashed on the Arlington Expressway Service Road on Friday said the rear of Squad 4 lost traction before it went over a curb onto a grass median, overturning and sliding into a utility pole, according to the crash report.
