One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries Thursday morning. An AMR ambulance traveling west on Interstate 90 lost control and hit the cement barrier on the right side of the roadway. The impact from that collision caused the engine to catch fire.
The AMR crew was not transporting a patient at the time and no other drivers or vehicles were involved.

A Wednesday morning fire at Lincoln Elementary School caused the Mount Vernon School District to cancel the school's classes for the day and move all students to Jefferson Elementary School.
The fire was reported about 8:45 a.m., about 15 minutes after classes began, when staff discovered what appeared to be an electrical fire in a light fixture in the ceiling of the gym.

An overnight blaze destroyed a roofing business in the 8600 block of Martin Way East.
Lacey Fire District 3, along with Olympia and East Olympia fire units, were dispatched to the fire about 3 a.m. Wednesday after a passerby saw smoke coming from the building, Lacey Battalion Chief Pat Harn said.
Because the site has a lot of flammable materials, such as roofing glue and other roofing products, Harn said they asked for assistance from Joint Base Lewis-McChord, which brought in a “crash truck” filled with foam and water to extinguish large fires.

A 46-year-old Homer man died this morning, apparently from a medical problem that happened as he drove his pickup truck on Illinois 49, hitting three parked cars.
Champaign County sheriff’s Lt. Brian Mennenga said John Mike Cummins was taken to Carle Hospital following the accident, which happened about 12:45 a.

Brian Schmitt is still facing questions about his long-term future as the head of the Town of Wilson’s fire department. But elected officials are considering giving him some wiggle room around a firefighting certification requirement he currently doesn’t meet.
The town last year agreed to a set of bylaws for its new municipal fire department that would require its fire officers to have a certain certification.
